As we celebrate another year coming to a close, I’ve put together a list of some of my favorite gifts for the artists in your life. From a distance, these items are simply pigments and tools, but really they are so much more. These gifts inspire. Opening a bottle of gold paint and dipping your brush into it for the first time, watching it sparkle on the bristles and suddenly having the urge to paint a sky full of stars! These simple tools can open up someone’s entire world that exists inside their head.

Below is a list of some of my personal favorites. I’ve included a corresponding $$$$ to identify their cost. These items are great to give on their own or together.

The Artist, The Designer, and The Dancer

ShadowDancer_Moon

Last week, Valentina Kova, Isabella Boylston, and I launched a collaborative project (more on that below!) and celebrated with some of our friends and colleagues in New York City. We spent the evening toasting our favorite Champagne Taittinger in a studio filled with beautiful floral designs by the whimsical Aurora Botanica (who I met here!), and dining on edible art made by Deirdre Anderson.

There’s a beautiful mystery to dance that I’ve always loved. The notion of grace and beauty intersecting with athleticism and pain that dancers experience is incredible to me. You will never notice that pain while watching ballet from the audience. Ballerinas master the art of appearing weightless and elegant on stage.

Valentina Kova created custom silk pieces for Isabella that thrive with movement. Pieces that float and gracefully flutter in and out as they dance with Isabella’s every step. I created a painted silk gown which we brought to life through Isabella’s dance…

Finally, I painted silk scarves inspired by ballet and our evening of “Dancing to the Moon”…
