i’m a huuuge fan of specs…! thank goodness i have horrible vision, so i need them. although, i don’t wear my warby parkers enough. i hate not being able to use my peripheral vision if you know what i mean…

what’s not to love about this gorman look? the socks make this look so special.

i’m obsessed with all the gorman collections right now… they sure know how to keep things fun by mixing patterns, and using lots of bright colors!

oooh the days of being lost. i remember when i was first starting college, thinking i knew exactly what i wanted to be (an industrial designer). i guess i haven’t landed too far from that, but back then it was all very confusing.

i was always interested in fashion (obviously), but wasn’t quite sure how to go about it.

luckily, i scored an awesome opportunity after my freshman year, to intern at the flagship hermés store in nyc.

working at hermés, was magical! imagine being surrounded by orange boxes all day everyday, and being required to wear their scarves and perfumes. such an incredible experience. hermés is such a timeless and creative brand… have you seen their illustrations? it’s my dream to create an illustration for one of their scarves.

it’s funny looking back and connecting the dots… i remember when things were slow, i would sketch fashion drawings on post-it notes, or discarded hermés tags. one of the workers saw my drawings, and thought they were so great that he commissioned me to do two for his home.

hey, maybe that was the true beginning of paperfashion…

my own version of an illustrated hermés product ‘character’… mine being, a crown, of course.

this is my absolute favorite clock. it sure does keep my wall lookin colorful.

so, this is my workspace! the whole working from home thing has proven to be a lot more difficult than it seems… but having a cool area to work in makes it a little bit easier.

but really. how do you freelancers do it? working from home can be so distracting sometimes. i’ll give it a little bit longer to set in (it’s only been 5 days), but i’m already leaning towards finding a studio space nearby.

this is a small glimpse of a video project i’m finishing up tonight… can’t wait to share it with you in february!

 it makes me want to pack my bags and explore the world even more… looks so small laid out like that, huh?

my last day at reebok. monday starts a new chapter.

every time i see my relatives, they tell me more and more about my ancestors (or maybe i’ve just recently started listening).

i’m always amazed at how creative they were. like my great grandfather, the illustrator, who started his own advertising business back in the day. the book above belonged to his wife, my great grandmother… who happened to be a concert pianist! i recently illustrated her on the piano, but i’ll get to that next week.

i saw this book over the holidays, which is over 100 years old! i was absolutely dying over it. it was given to my great grandmother by an artist who thought she looked just like the girls in the paintings. there’s even a cute handwritten poem for her inside the book. the illustrations are gorgeous, and have some unreal watercolor detail. it’s called Bachelor Belles, illustrated by harrison fisher- a very well known illustrator who worked for magazines like cosmopolitan… way way back.

more magazines should bring back illustrated cover art, don’t you think?

This quote sums up how I feel perfectly.

As most of you know, I’ve been working at Reebok as an apparel designer since I graduated college back in 2008. It has been nothing short of amazing, and I definitely couldn’t have asked for a better job… truthfully.

However, last week I took my own advice and I quit my job.

Yup… put in my two weeks, packing up my desk, and this week will be my last.

It hasn’t really hit me yet. Until I wake up next Monday morning and realize I don’t actually have to go anywhere (or have a boss)… it will remain surreal.

It was a tough decision, but one I’m confident about. I am passionate about illustration and design… and what was once a hobby, has quickly become my career… so it’s time for me to take it on full steam!

Although, exciting as this is it also brings on a scary… and nervous feeling. I’ve given up the comfort of a corporate 9-5 job, and biweekly paycheck (YIKES)… but again… I’m super confident that things will work out. and if they don’t… at least I gave it a shot, right?!

My dreams sure do scare the hell out of me sometimes.

Anyway, I can’t wait to start putting my all into Paperfashion! It’s going to be an amazing year, and I definitely have my work cut out for me.

Thank you always for your support and love! It means the world to me.

and to my Reebok Squad… I’m going to miss working with you SO much. Thank you for being the biggest supporters of my ‘secret Paperfashion life’. I don’t think many employers would openly cheer me on like you did. I’ve been so fortunate to meet and work with such talented people. It’s been a pleasure, and I’ll never forget how awesome these years were. Oh. and luckily, we can still hang out.

you didn’t think i’d let this year start without some illustrated resolutions, did you?

2011 was one crazy year (i mean, i almost moved to barcelona!)… and similarly, 2012 has adventure written all over it. you’ll see.

my resolutions are nothing too serious, just a few things i’d like to accomplish and live by this year.

1 | publish my first book.

2 | eat healthier (how many years has that been on the list…!)

3 | illustrate more scenes… maybe my studio?!

4 | more wine, less beer.

5 | consider getting a dog… maybe…. MAYBE.

6 | hang out at more jazz bars.

7| take another trip to london. and somewhere new.

8 | live by this. and take chances.

it feels like i’ve been on vacation FOREVER… too much downtime maybe… but now it’s back to work… and, i’m definitely ready to get back on a routine!
