FACE TO FACE

I’ve been craving artistic exploration lately… not just with new mediums, but also with perspective. Usually I focus on the large picture, but this time I zoomed in to focus on the face.  8_face

I tried to keep things simple by focusing on the purest form of watercolor and working with positive and negative space. It creates such a strong graphic element…

It’s refreshing to try something new… don’t you think?

Such a great close look. My favorites are the ones with hats on! It is a blast to try new things artistically, I’m glad you’re having fun with it :)

These are great. I especially love the hints of other colors within a color. I hope that made sense. LOL!

It’s beautiful seeing your artistic explorations Trying new techniques, styles, etc, can be quite liberating. I love the strength of the negative space and the lips on all these beautiful ladies.

Really love these! I love the suggestion of a mouth or nose or shape. This is the reason I’m falling in love with watercolor, it lets our brains fill in the details. Beautiful.

Lovely images, im not a fan of the first but the others are beautiful, you’re so very talented.
Coming from an expressionists point of view trying a new medium or approach to works is always refreshing and provides a clearer and wider outlook on the works of others as well as your own.

    Hi Katie!
Oh! I love to draw negative space! It gives a very Noir feeling to your work… [I love Noir movies... they have something very unique]. Have you ever read a japanese comic book called ‘Clover’, by the artists CLAMP?

Those artist worked only with negative space… the entire comic book looks like an art book! Check the movie trailer…

Besides, making sketches like this, helps you create a pop of color, that are very specific, don’t you think?

    P.s.: I love the 5th one… it’s like her eyes are wondering……

I couldn’t agree more. It’s important to leave your comfort zone and try new things whether it’s painting something you normally wouldn’t or experimenting with a particular medium, letting it do more of the work. These illos are great. I love how all the girls have hats.
