DIOR INSPIRED SEQUINS

SEQINSSS

Lately, I’ve been experimenting with sequins. I’m always looking for new embellishments for my drawings… and these really bring it to life, don’t you think? They create a dimension while still remaining in the 2-D realm.

I’m working on a large piece using them right now that I’ll share later this week. Would love to hear your thoughts!

    Hi Katie!

The use of other mediums with watercolor, nor only gives the artwork another kind of ‘soul’, but also, gives more depth to the watercolor itself. This piece looks really cute, specially because of the combination of colors you choose! They really work well together, don’t they?
Please keep sharing these new experiments! :)
    Have a great week!

It does give it extra dimension and the colors really bring it to life. I love the combination of pink and orange. Great work, Katie! Can’t wait to see the large piece.

It looks lovely and deffinately adds another dimension to it! I’ve recently started experimenting with buttons but I think your sequins look better :)

I just found your website today and spent over an hour looking at past posts! Your art is amazing!!!!! My grandmother used to do watercolors. I wish I inherited even a small percent of her talent. Your work reminded me of hers from years past. Simply stunning. Thank you for sharing.

hi! i’ve always loved your illustrations but this is my first time commenting. why? sequins! i studied theatrical set design, and one of my professors, eduardo sicangco, (who is a set and costume designer) loooooves glitter and is an amazing painter. i do feel like you would enjoy his work… http://eduardosicangco.com/.

as for other glittery mediums, have you ever tried automotive glitter? i don’t actually know where to get it, but eduardo uses it a lot and loves it. and his favorite medium to add glitz by far is puffy paint. strange, yes, but if you know how to control the bottle well (and manage to find a precise tip cover for the bottles), you can get a very small dot that reads like sequins.

ah! one more thing. the costume renderings for last year’s revival of follies (by gregg barnes) are STUNNING. there’s a gallery of them on this website, although the photography isn’t the best: http://www.playbill.com/multimedia/gallery/2512/Gregg-Barnes-Costume-Sketches-for-Kennedy-Center-Follies
i’ve seen them in person and they are indescribable. he uses puffy paint too, but also applies individual tiny crystals. they’re insane. i hope you enjoy them!

whew, hope you got through all that! thanks for letting me share- i love your work!
