Alice In Wonderland

October 26, 2010

Just finished this Alice in Wonderland illustration from Vogue’s take on the classic story.  I wasn’t a huge fan of the Tim Burton remake… although it was very pretty to watch.

It’s definitely fall… quickly turning to winter here in Boston. I’m liking it… I can’t wait to wake up and see snow everywhere!!!! I guess being from Georiga, that was always soo exciting…

If you want to see more of what I do, check out the PaperFashion Facebook page. I update it pretty often with interviews and photos of my illustration process.

Alice in Wonderland print + Willow Smith Print now available in my etsy shop!

Willow Smith

October 25, 2010

Most people who know me are well aware that I’m obsessed with Willow Smith. She’s the daughter of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith- and just released her video “Whip My Hair“. I fell in love with her style in this video… ! Had to illustrate her… I’m a sucker for a good pop song :)

This 9 year old has some powerful energy and talent! Watch an interview of her HERE.

Mike Gonzalez

October 21, 2010

Mike Gonzalez from Mike and Chris has gone solo… and this is one of his new looks. I LOVE his new collection… which you can view here on Refinery29. The mixed textures and prints are awesomeeeee.

Thanks again for all your comments on the logo redesign… I’ve thought about it alot- back and forth! I’ve decided to stick with my current logo for a little bit longer… and see if I can come up with some other options. I also realized this new logo wouldn’t work very well for my homemade shipping stickers…. :).

Ernst Troeger

October 19, 2010

This is Ernst Troeger, my Great Grandfather (German). The past few weeks my Uncle has been sending me pictures he found from my grandfather’s collection of photos. I’ve heard stories about Ernst, but it makes it all so real to see actual photos.

Ernst was an illustrator, who went to Parsons in NYC back in the day. Supposedly he was good friends with the famous illustrator Norman Rockwell- and used to go fishing with him. These photos and stories are amazing to me… especially since this particular picture is exactly what I do in my own studio everyday. It’s crazy to think the process of illustrating is still so similar to how it was so long ago. It’s very refreshing to know there is still a job today (in this technology crazed world) that is not too far from the way it was in the past. It’s also pretty cool to know I’m so similar to my ancestors!

This is Ernst (far left) and a bunch of other artists smoking pipes around a fire. I love the pictures on the wall behind them… this photo is amazing!!

This is Ernst painting when he was older. The painting is incredible… and SO strikingly similar to what I do in some ways. White background… with a character/girl! It’s also looks like a Norman Rockwell… doesn’t it??

These photos are beyond inspiring to me- I had to share. It would’ve been so cool to meet this guy…. :)

Thank you so much for all your feedback on the logo (keep it comin!). I’m still a little back and forth about it… but I’m looking at other options too. I’m glad there’s alot of positive response towards the new logo!! Will update you soon on the outcome…
